Easter: A Time for Celebration!

We were very happy to share an Easter Sunday with our family. At Mass we heard the best Easter homily ever- "We need Easter Sunday, but we can't have it without our Good Fridays. When we carry our cross joyfully, we will have our Easter Sunday."
A Brown family portrait.
Getting ready for a big egg hunt!
Gabe sampled the treats hidden in the eggs almost as fast as he collected them.
Monica took a breather from searching for eggs to catch some sun!
Success!
These Easter egg hunts require dedication.
Resting after the search!
Our next door neighbors came over for some driveway racing. John Paul enjoyed his lead!!
There's nothing like a big wheel race to get your blood flowing!

What a Great Season!

Final Four!!! Amazing wins over UCLA, Duke, and Pitt!! Scottie Reynold's buzzer beater that sent us to the final four for the first time in 24 years! A season with 32 wins, most ever! Thank you Jay Wright and all the Wildcats who played with great heart and unselfishness!

V for Villanova! Go Wildcats!

Fred and I were very fortunate to attend several basketball games this year. Early in the season we put aside our Villanova-St Joe's rivalry for a picture with our Hawk friends.
The Wildcats are a hard working group who just completed a very successful regular season. Fred exemplifies the Wildcat work ethic in his therapy sessions, and is proud of his team.

We're gearing up for March Madness!

Making Snowmen with the Browns

On Saturday Feb. 7 we had the perfect day for making snowmen.
The temperature was in the 40's, and the snow was just the right consistency.
Fred was happy to have the driveway free of snow so he could do some driving, and keep an eye on the proceedings.
We were glad to have a hill as we rolled the snowballs.
Teamwork!

A job well done!
Grandmom Lorrie's first snowman in many years, completed with the help of Gabe.

Our snowmen sporting some Mouse ears.
We had a springlike thaw overnight. They'll be back again some day!

Winter Wonderland

We had a particularly beautiful snowfall of 8 inches or so in early February.
The contrast of the snow and blue sky was captivating!

A January Weekend in the Napa Valley

Greg and I flew back to California with Jen and the girls on Martin Luther King weekend. Matthew's home town of St Helena is beautiful. We were told the weather was exceptionally nice for January! The Heils were the perfect hosts and treated us to brunch on Saturday. Matthew's brother Dominic and his girlfriend Leah(now fiance!) joined us.
When in Napa, one visits wineries. The Castle Winery was a breathtaking combination of medieval design and modern winery technology. We toured and tasted happily.

We had a picnic lunch at Santui Winery where Matthew used to work. It was great to be dining outdoors in January!
Jen and Matthew have a nice location. Their home is within walking distance of town, and there's a park across the street.
Lydia loves playing in the pantry.
The Heil home in St Helena.
On Sunday we went to Mass at a chapel near St Helena, surrounded by vineyards.

Matthew gave us a great tour of St Helena and environs, with interesting historical detail.
We enjoyed a festive Sunday dinner hosted by family friends of the Heils.

On our way back to the airport we took the scenic route. San Francisco Bay( and Alcatraz) are in the background.
You can see the Golden Gate Bridge behind us. We had a ball and enjoyed our break from winter. Thanks , Jen and Matthew!

Home for Christmas!

We are thankful that Fred came home from the hospital three days before Christmas. He was delighted to have the whole family together- hectic but good.
Our family now includes baby Alexandra Marie Heil, born on December 12. She was baptized at our parish, St Patrick's, on December 26th.

Our grandchildren are a wonderful and lively group! They had fun together.
Luis' birthday is two days before Christmas, and Carolyn coordinated an 80's themed celebration.

Our family includes both Eagles and Vikings fans, so we anticipated the playoff game between our teams on Sunday Jan. 4th.
We are enjoying our unexpected and enjoyable post season run with Lydia.
We look forward to the New Year, and hope to grow in gratitude to God for the many gifts He gives us.
